Peregrine Falcons Return to Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park staff have noticed that the peregrine falcons have returned to their traditional nesting territories at the Precipice, Jordan and Valley Cove cliffs in Acadia National Park and therefore the National Park Service has closed the cliffs and associated trails to the public so as to protect the peregrine falcons from disturbance or harrassment during the nesting stage.

Hiker Injured on Icy Precipice Trail

27 year old Tyler Wood, who had completed the entire Appalachian Trail this year, suffered serious injuries on the Precipice Trail on Christmas Day, December 25th. According to his Facebook page, his right shoulder was dislocated and broken along with a broken right wrist. His left shoulder was also dislocated. A rib or two was fractured. Wood was scheduled to have surgery in Eastern Maine Medical Center on December 26th.

Park Loop Road to Close December 1st

The Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park will be closed to motor vehicles for the season starting December 1st, with the exception of the two mile section from the Sand Beach Entrance station to the Otter cliff Road (accessible via the Schooner Head Road in Bar Harbor) and the Jordan Pond area (accessible via Jordan Pond Road in Seal Harbor).
