Solution to the Slippery Conditions on Route 3
After the accident on Route 3 in Bar Harbor on Monday October 29th I reached out to Ted Talbot, the spokesperson with the Maine Department of Transportation. Here is his response.
"There was indeed an issue with the sealant used on that stretch of roadway. Under certain conditions with colder temps it becomes more slick.
We have directed the contractor to immediately address this… so tomorrow (Wed) mid-day an iron oxide grit will be rolled into the roadway to prevent slippage.
This should take care of the issue as the iron oxide grit is a fairly commonly used product."
