Rafael Devers went deep twice, blasting home runs in back to back innings, as the Boston Red Sox beat the San Diego Padres 6-1 on Friday night, May 19th, to start their 9-game West Coast road trip.
James Paxton picked up his 1st going 6.0 innings and allowing 5 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 2. Josh Winckowski finished the game, holding the Padres hitless.
Rob Refsnyder and Connor Wong each doubled. Refsnyder drove in 2 runs. It was Wong's birthday.
Prior to the game the Red Sox reinstated Kutter Crawford from the injured list, and announced that Nick Pivetta would be moving from the starting rotation to the bullpen.
