Presque Isle Girls Tip Ellsworth 57-53

The Ellsworth Girls traveled up to Aroostook County on Friday night, January 24th, and were the decided underdog playing the Presque Isle Wildcats, but no one told the Ellsworth Girls!

Presque Isle jumped out to a 22-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, and things weren't looking good for the Ellsworth Eagles. Presque Isle was riding a 57 game winning streak, with their last loss coming to John Bapst in January of 2010, and their home winning streak dated even longer!

Ellsworth crawled back in the 2nd Quarter, outscoring Presque Isle 17-13, and at the end of the 1st Half, Presque Isle led by 10 points, 35-25.

Ellsworth cut the lead to 5 points at the end of the 3rd Quarter, as they continued to outscore the Wildcats, 20-15, and at the end of the 3rd Quarter Presque Isle led 50-45.

Ellsworth would cut the lead to less than 4, but were never able to take the lead, as Presque Isle hung on to win, despite being outscored in the 4th Quarter 8-7. The final was Presque Isle 57 Ellsworth 53.

For the Eagles, it was a matter of getting a bit too far behind in the 1st Quarter, and that Presque Isle made more free throws, as the Wildcats went 15-24 from the line, while Ellsworth was 1-7.

Ellsworth was led by Morgan Card with 14 points and Hailee Langley had 12. Maddie Card had 3 3-pointers, and Emily Berry added a 3-pointer for the Eagles. Presque Isle was led by Krystal Kingsbury with 17 points. Taylor Williams had 14 points with 4 3-pointers and Regan Nelson had 14 points including going 6-8 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth has a quick turn-around, as they play Caribou at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 25th, and Presque Isle puts their 58 game winning streak on the line when they play host to MDI at 1 PM on Saturday, January 25th in a game that will be heard on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
