This Saturday, April 27th is National Prescription Take Back Day. There are numerous locations in Hancock and Washington Counties where you can drop off any unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs through this free, anonymous service.

Note - needles, syringes or liquid medication CANNOT be accepted.

Hancock County Locations

The Hancock County Sheriff's Department, the Ellsworth Police Department, Healthy Acadia and the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce are hosting a collection event from 9-1 at the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce at 163 High Street.

The Gouldsboro and Winter  Harbor Police Departments will host a take-back event from 10 to Noon at the Winter Harbor Town Office.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office, the Bar Harbor, Bucksport, Ellsworth, Mount Desert and Southwest Harbor Police Departments have prescription drug drop boxes located in their lobbies. A prescription drug drop box is also available at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, located in the lobby of the Sussman Medical Building. All boxes are accessible during regular business hours and some are accessible 24/7.

Washington County Locations

The Machias Police Department in collaboration with Healthy Acadia will host a collection event from 9-1 at the Machias Hannaford on Dublin Street.

In addition drug drop boxes are available at the Calais Police Department, Eastport Police Department, Machias Family Pharmacy, Milbridge Pharmacy, Passamaquoddy Tribe of Indian Township Police Department, Passamaquoddy Tribe of Pleasant Point Police Department and Washington County Sheriff's Office. Drop boxes are accessible during regular business hours of operation.
