Open Table MDI served their 1st meal back on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. That night they served about 40 people at the First Congregational Church in Bar Harbor.

The vegetarian and vegan and gluten free menu (except for the biscuits) consisted of

  • Southern Skillet Black-Eyed Peas and Cauliflower
  • Homemade Biscuits with Maple Butter
  • Smoky Braised Kale with Crimini Mushrooms
  • There will also be a small amount of salad tossed with golden carrots and Chioggia beets from Beech Hill Farm, dried cranberries, toasted pumpkin seeds, and an orange vinaigrette.

and I can attest to how good it was as I ate. Everything was delicious and I could have had more than the 2 homemade biscuits with maple butter than I ate! You know they were made with love, as they were all heart shaped!

They started off served twice a month, until April, when they started their weekly meals!

Fast forward to 2021 and they have served about 33,000 meals! They are averaging about 375 meals each Tuesday, are now offering delivery and because of the pandemic have transitioned from a sit down community meal to take out.

Open Table MDI continues to serve every Tuesday from 4pm to 6 p.m. at the Bar Harbor Congregational Church. They welcome volunteers to help with preparation of food and serving!

Today marks Open Table MDI's THIRD ANNIVERSARY!! Our community supper program kicked off three years ago today,...
