MDI Walks Off in 9 Innings Beats Ellsworth 5-4 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Trojans remained perfect on the year, and handed Ellsworth their 1st loss of the season, defeating the Eagles 5-4 in extra innings on Tuesday, April 24th in Bar Harbor.
MDI jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning and it stayed that way until Ellsworth scored 4 runs in the top of the 6th innings. MDI tied the score in the bottom of the 6th, pushing across 2 runs. It stayed that way until the 9th inning when MDI scored the winning run on Nick Stanley's single.
Matt Perconti started for MDI and went 7 innings allowing just 2 hits. He struck out 3 and walked 1. He allowed 4 runs, but they were all unearned as MDI committed 6 errors. Alden Fournier picked up the win, pitching the last 2 innings, allowing no hits and striking out 1.
Conner Wagstaff threw 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs, all earned, on 3 hits. He walked 6 and struck out 7. Bradly Smith took the loss. He went 3 innings, allowing 1 run, which was earned and struck out 2 and walked 2.
Nick Stanley and Liam Sullivan each had 2 hits. Sullivan has 2 RBI's. Andrew Kennedy, Alden Fournier, Sam Keblinsky and Stanley Grierson each had a single for MDI
Ellsworth had 2 hits, singles by Matt Burnett and Jack Lee.
MDI now 2-0 will play host to Caribou in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 28th with games at 1PM and 3PM.
Ellsworth, now 2-1 plays at Washington Academy on Thursday, April 26th at 4:30 PM.
