MDI Football Beats Ellsworth 44-6 [PHOTOS]

The MDI Trojans beat the Ellsworth Eagles 44-6 at Tug White Stadium in Ellsworth on Friday, October 3rd.

MDI outgained Ellsworth 211-65 yards in the 1st Half, and finished with 372 total yards to Ellsworth's 172 total yards for the game.

After a slow start where both teams turned the ball over on downs, and MDI forced an Ellsworth punt, the Trojans struck on a 44 yard pass from Ripley Hawkins to Henry Trombetto for the 1st touchdown of the game. The 2-point conversion was good, and with 2:54 left to play in the 1st Quarter, MDI led 8-0.

After another Eagle's punt, mdi took over at the Ellsworth 38 yard line, and scored with 37.5 seconds left in the 1st Quarter, as Kenneth Stillwell rumbled in from 8 yards out. The drive took just 12.6 seconds. The 2-point conversion was no-good and MDI led 14-0 at the end of the 1st Quarter.

MDI scored again with 8:10 left in the 1st Half. This time Lincoln Gray powered in the 5 yards out. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 22-0.

With 1:06 left to play in the 1st Half, Kenneth Stillwell went into the end zone from 6 yards out for his 2nd touchdown of the night. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 30-0 at the end of the 1st Half.

With 9:36 left in the 3rd  Quarter Kenneth Stillwell scored his 3rd touchdown of the night, this time rumbling in to the end zone from 41 yards out. With the 2-point conversion, MDI led 38-0.

The 38 point differential meant that we were playing with the clock running.

Lincoln Gray scored his 3rd touchdown of the night with 1:55 left in the 3rd Quarter, running in from 1 yard out. The 2-point conversion was no good, and MDI led 44-0

Phoenix Torrey recovered a fumble for the Eagles in the 4th Quarter.

Ellsworth finally got on the scoreboard, when with 51 seconds left in the 3rd Quarter, Ripley Strout scored from 62 yards out. The 2-point conversion was no-good and the score was 44-5 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

Neither team scored in the 4th Quarter, making the final score MDi 44 and Ellsworth 6.

MDI is now 3-2 and will host Orono for homecoming on Friday, October 10th at 7 p.m That game will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370, on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.

Ellsworth is 1-4 and will host Stearns on Friday, October 10th at 7 p.m.
