MDI Girls Beat WA 42-36 [PHOTOS]
The MDI Girl's Basketball Team improved to 2-0, defeating Washington Academy 42-36 on Wednesday, December 14th at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor.
MDI jumped out to a 15-6 1st Quarter lead, as Julia Watras hit 2 3-pointers and had 8 points in the quarter. Abbe Miller drained a 3-pointer and Maddy Candage had a basket for the Trojans. For Washington Academy Caitlyn Lyons had 4 points and Jaiden Veal had 2.
In the 2nd Quarter, MDI increased their lead to 13 points, taking a 27-14 lead into the half. Miller had another 3-pointer, Maya Watras had 3 points, Emma Watras had 2 points, Rachelle Swanson had 2 points and Maddy Good had 1 point for the Trojans. For Washington Academy, Rylea Steeves poured in 7 points, including a 3-pointer for the Raiders.
In the 3rd Quarter, Washington Academy outscored MDI 12-9 to cut the lead to 36-26. Steeves had another 3-pointer for WA, Ashley Porter had a 3-pointer and Lydia Day, Lyons and Veal all had 2 points for the Raiders. For MDI Miller hit her 3rd 3-pointer of the night, Maddy Good had 4 points and Maya Watras went 2-2 from the free throw line.
In the 4th Quarter, the Raiders again outscored MDI 10-6, but MDI was able to hold off Washington Academy for the win. Steeves hit her 3rd 3-pointer for Washington Academy, Day and Lyons had 2 points and Porter had 1 point. For MDI, Maya Watras, Alexis Clarito and Maddy Candage each had 2 points for the Trojans.
MDI was led by Abbe Miller with 9 points, Julia Watras had 8 points and Maya Watras had 7 points. MDI was 9-15 from the free throw line.
Washington Academy was led by Rylea Steeves who had a game high 13 points while Caitlyn Lyons had 8 points. The Raiders were 6-12 from the free throw line.
MDI now 2-0 plays at Hermon on Friday, December 16th at 7 PM.
Washington Academy is 1-1 and plays host to Narraguagus on Monday, December 19th at 7 PM.
