MDI Boys Fall to Orono 46-41 in Overtime

The MDI Boys Basketball Team fell to the Orono Red Riots 46-41 in Bar Harbor on Saturday afternoon, January 11th.

MDI led 12-8 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Erik Merchant had 4 points for MDI, Brady Renault a 2-pointer and Nate Philbrook 2 points. Ethan Merchant was 1-2 from the free throw line. For Orono Jason Desisto had 4 points with a 3-pointer and Jordan Cota had a 3-pointer.

MDI outscored Orono 14-9 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 26-17 lead at the end of the 1st Half. For MDI Charlie Parker had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Brady Renault had a 3-pointer and Ethan Merchant, Maddox Laurendeau and Erik Merchant each had 2 points. For Orono Desisto had 6 points and Cota had another 3-pointer.

In the 3rd Quarter MDI outscored Orono 7-6 to take a 33-23 lead. Cadin Lunt had a 3-pointer for MDI, Porter Isaacs 2 points and Nate Philbrook was 2-2 from the free throw line. Zach Dill had 4 points for Orono and Desisto had 2 more points.

In the 4th Quarter MDI went cold, only scoring 3 points while Orono scored 13 to tie the score at 36-36 at the end of regulation. Javier Santiago had 5 points with a 3-pointer. Zach Dill had 4 points with a 3-pointer. Ellis Spaulding 3 points and Desisto was 1-2 from the free throw line. For MDI Erik Merchant had 2 points and Ethan Merchant was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In Overtime Orono outscored MDI 10-5. Zach Dill had 4 points. Willem Crane and Jordan Cota each had 2 points and Santiago and Desisto each were 1-2 from the free throw line. For MDI Ethan Merchant had 3 points and Brady Renault 2 points.

MDI was led by Brady Renault and Erik Merchant each with 8 points while Ethan Merchant had 7 points. MDI was 5-9 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Jason Desisto with a game high 15 points while Zach Dill had 12 points. Orono was 7-14 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 5-6 and will play host to Old Town on Wednesday, January 15th at 7 p.m.

Orono is 3-7 and plays host to John Bapst on Wednesday, January 15th at 7 p.m.
