If anyone has questions about the generosity of the Downeast Maine community, let me put them to bed! On Thursday night, January 30th Downeast Maine came out and filled the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School to near-capacity for a spaghetti supper to benefit Ellsworth High School 9th grader Layla Downs and her family.

The fundraiser was organized to assist the Downs family with medical-related expenses. The evening featured a dinner by donation, a large-scale raffle, and live performances by the Ellsworth High School Jazz Band and Choir.

"I am extremely proud of our Ellsworth community for pulling together to support a family that is deeply woven into our system," said Superintendent Amy Boles. "Students, staff, board members, and families came together to show their support for Layla and the family. They are extremely humbled and appreciative of the generosity of our community. We truly are better when we come together."
