Keeping Acadia Sustainable Fund

It's no secret that Maine businesses rely heavily on revenue generated by tourists and that's particularly true for businesses in the Bar Harbor region.

So when Acadia National Park officials announced a late opening this year due to sequestration cuts business owners were concerned.

That concern prompted the General Manager of Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Conference Center, Julius Wilson, to request a special meeting of the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce membership, which was held last night in Bar Harbor.

Wilson, and other business owners, are creating a Sustainable Acadia Fund to support Acadia National Park operations.

"We're going to reach out to the guests who come to Bar Harbor and ask for donations so that we can help keep Acadia sustainable and offset some of the expenses and help the park open on time next year," states Wilson.

The sustainable Acadia Fund will also help support some of Acadia National Park's programs like the junior rangers.
