Johnny Pesky passed away today, Monday August 13th, 2012 at the age of 92. For over sixty years, Pesky was a member of the Red Sox family, as player, manager, broadcaster, coach, executive and ambassador. Without question, Pesky was one of the most popular Red Sox.

In 2008 he was the first player to have his number,6, retired by the Red Sox who was not a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is usually a pre-requisite for retirement by the Red Sox.

Pesky's name will live on at Fenway Park as the right field foul pole is affectionately know as "Pesky's Pole", a term popularized by Pesky's teammate Mel Parnell who named the pole while broadcasting a Sox game in the mid '60's. The Red Sox made the title official in 2006 when they placed a plaque on the pole, honoring Johnny Pesky.

With Pesky's passing, a bad season, has just become worse, for Red Sox fans.
