Hollis Vehicle Caught Fire When Homemade Battery Pack Failed Authorities Say
A specialty car located in Hollis, Maine, that was in the process of being outfitted with a custom battery-powered audio system,--- caught fire in Hollis last Saturday. Officials believe the customization is what led to the blaze.
According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, the fire started just before noon on June 21st in a portable garage structure on Moderation Street.
"Preliminary findings indicate the fire was caused by a failure of a lithium-ion battery bank that was being charged at the time. The vehicle’s owner had been preparing the car for an upcoming audio show...The system was connected to a battery charger when the homemade battery bank failed, igniting a fire that damaged both the vehicle and the adjacent portable garage."

Authorities say no one was injured during the fire and that there were witnesses to the whole thing.
The State Fire Marshal's Office warns that the modification to battery units, especially ones made up of Lithium-ion batteries, can be dangerous. They ask that people use extreme caution when trying to customize charging units.
