A 15-Year-Old Boy Died in a Washington County Crash

A 15-year-old boy was killed when a car full of juveniles went off the road in Washington County.

Where Did This Happen?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says State Police Troopers were called to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Grand Falls Road in Baileyville at approximately 10 pm on Monday. When they arrived, they found a vehicle off the road, with six passengers, one of whom was deceased.

Was Anyone Else Hurt?

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash determined that the Jeep Liberty was traveling at a high rate of speed when the 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle. The Jeep traveled off the road and struck a large culvert before rolling over and coming to rest on its roof in approximately 3 feet of water. One of the six passengers, a 15-year-old boy who was ejected and pinned underneath the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining passengers were transported to Calais Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Officials have not released the names of any of the people in the vehicle.

Were There Any Contributing Factors in the Crash?

Officials say speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash. This incident remains under investigation. State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Washington County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Tribal Warden Service, and the Baileyville Fire Department.
