I Haven’t Turned the Heat On… Yet!

It's Columbus Day Weekend. It's one of those milestones in our house. Yes my wife has Monday off, and I have to work, but not that kind of milestone. It's one of those days we try and get past before we turn the heat on!

Let's face it, with the price of oil, no one wants to turn their furnace on any sooner than necessary. But at the same time, I don't want to walk around with a parka on in the house! We had a pellet stove installed in the house four years ago, and that's been a great thing as we have drastically cut our oil consumption. We also have a propane fireplace that we use often at night. Perhaps the best thing we bought last year was an electric blanket! That makes a huge difference!

So last weekend when it was pouring, and the house damp, I really thought about the pellet stove. I looked over at it longingly but remembered Columbus Day! Now the trick is to get to Halloween...But that's going to be hard! We've done it in the past, but looking at temperatures in the 30's this week, I'm not sure I'm as tough as I used to be. I think we almost made it to Veteran's Day one year, but that was a very beautiful and mild Fall.

So I want to know...
