Free Kids Events at the Southwest Harbor Public Library June 17-22
Summer vacation is here and even though the children are just out of school, you may already have heard "I'm bored". Here are some events happening at the Southwest Harbor Public Library this week June 17-22 to help fight the "I'm boreds! "
The big event is Tuesday June 18th when the Library kicks off their Summer Reading Program at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall with a FREE fun show by the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers, entitled "Everybody Loves Pirates".
The show features 15 of their hand-crafter mouth and rod puppets and an 8-foot paper-mache pirate ship. "Everybody Loves Pirates" is the story of 8-year old Lucy and her goofy pal Little Chucky who are searching for buried treasure, but a gang of bumbling pirates keep getting in their way! The kids get some help from their new ocean-dwelling friends, including enthusiastic superhero Lobster Boy, his reluctant sidekick Crabby and an overgrown sea monkey!
If you can't attend the Tuesday night kick-off of the Summer Reading Program you can stop into the Library anytime it's open and sign up. The Library will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th for the Juneteenth Holiday.
On Friday, June 21st there will be Family Storytime from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Kids can join Mis. Chrissy for a fun-filled interactive storytime with books, puppets, movements, songs and more!
On Friday, June 22nd the Library will partner with Acadia National Park to learn more about Echo Lake and Loons. You'll need to preregister for this free program. It's designed for children in grades K-5. Registrants will receive a free book, story-time by a Southwest Harbor Public Library librarian and then explore and learn with an Acadian Park Ranger.
