The Maine Department of Transporation has announced that starting on October 5th, the Seawall Road (Route 102A) will close for up to 28 days in Southwest Harbor for a highway rehabilitation project to make the roadway more resilient to future storm events.

The project location is on Route 102A and begins 0.07 of a mile south of Beaver Lodge Lane and extends south 0.42 of a mile.

The project work includes installing new gabion baskets along the area of roadway closest to the oceanfront and a new reinforced concrete culvert. Fish passage, specifically eels, is considered with this project.

Work is expected to be completed by October 30.

Message boards are in place advising of the upcoming closure.

Motorists should follow the detour map provided and posted detour signs.

The contractor for this project is R F Jordan & Sons Construction, Inc. of Ellsworth, Maine.

The contract amount is $915,820.00. Funding for this project is through the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) and the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI).

Local companies banded together to repair the Seawall Road in July of 2024 after it was severely damaged in storms in the Winter of 2024. Those repairs were considered temporary. The companies did the near impossible in 5 days!

Seawall Rebuild

Local companies - John Goodwin Jr. Construction, Doug Gott and Sons, BFP Trucking, Rings Paving, GT Outhouses and Northeast Paving banded together to clear and rebuild the Seawall Road, These 6 companies donated their time and materials during the busiest part of the construction season. .
