Former Chief Chapais suffered a medical emergency on October 28th. He was working as a Lieutenant in the Pleasant Point Police Department.
Chief Chapais retired from the Southwest Harbor Police Department in the fall of 2014 after 20 years with the police department, the last 11 years as Chief according to a story in the Ellsworth American. Prior to joining the Southwest Harbor Police Department he served in the Coast Guard for 20 years.
