‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ Trailer Returns to Hogwarts
The new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander. It’s got Jude Law as the young Dumbledore. It has Katherine Waterston and Dan Fogler too. But I imagine the main thing people are going to be excited to see in this trailer isn’t any of the characters, it’s Hogwarts, the beloved wizarding school from the original Harry Potter series. And there it is! It’s back. Like magic.
So is Johnny Depp, as the evil Grindelwald, although you won’t see more than a glimpse of him in this clip. (The ongoing controversy about his casting may have something to do with that.) Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Like the first Fantastic Beasts and the final four Harry Potters, The Crimes of Grindelwald is directed by David Yates; like the first Fantastic Beasts, the sequel’s screenplay was written by Potter creator J.K. Rowling. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens in theaters on November 16.
