Expired Marine Safety Flare Disposal/Collection Sunday July 30
If you are captaining a boat in the State of Maine that is over 16 feet you must carry Visual Distress Signals, usually flares. There are some exceptions, for example if you are boating on a late (except the Great Lakes), captaining a sailboat under 26 feet without propulsion machinery, manually propelled boats and boats participating in organized events.
The safety flares expire 42 months from the date of manufacture. Proper disposal is a must, to avoid unwanted fires!
The Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal, in conjunction with Mount Desert Fire Department, will be conducting an expired marine safety flare disposal/collection on Sunday, 30 July, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. , at Mount Desert Fire Department's Somesville Fire Station, located at 1157 Main Street (Route 102), Mount Desert, 04660.
