Ellsworth Boys Fall Late to Orono 64-55

The Ellsworth Boys were tied with the Orono Red Riots 47-47 at the end of the 3rd Quarter but Orono went on a 9-0 run to start the 4th Quarter, and fell to Orono 64-55 late Saturday afternoon, December 8th at Orono to start the 2018-19 Basketball season.

Orono jumped out to a 19-17 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. Connor Robertson who missed the most of the 2017-18 season with an injury had 11 points including 3 3-pointers.  Sam Martin had 4 points and Zack Dill and Ryan Shorette chipped in 2 points for Orono. For Ellsworth Darby Berry had 2 3-pointers for 6 points, Austin Harris had 5 points with a 3-pointer and Jackson Curtis had a 3-pointer and Connor Crawford had 3 points.  Harris' 3-pointer came right at the buzzer and he was fouled, sinking the free throw. Ellsworth had 3 4's and Orono 3 3's.

The two teams were tied at 34-34 at the end of the 1st Half. Curtis had 11 points with 2 3-pointes. Hunter Curtis scored his first varsity points with 6:39 remaining in the 1st Half, and ended the Quarter with 3 points. Barry had another 3-pointer. For Orono, Robertson continued his hot hand having 8 points with 2 more 3-pointers. Marting had 4 points and Dill 3 points.

Through the 1st Half, the 2 teams combined for 12 3's, with Ellsworth having 7 and Connor Robertson 5 for Orono.

The 2 teams remained deadlocked 47-47 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Barry sank his 4th 3-pointer of the game for Ellsworth. Curtis had 4 points and Devin Grindle. Malcolm Svec and Hunter Curtis each had 2 points. For Orono Robertson added 9 more points with his 6th 3'pointer. Javier Santiago had a 3-pointer and Dill was 1-2 from the free throw line.

In the 4th Quarter Orono went on the 9-0 run before Jackson Curtis drained a 3-pointer with 5:02 left in the game. Robertson hit his 7th 3-pointer, Dill and Willem Crane each had a 3-pointer and Martin had 4 points going 2-2 from the free throw line. Shorette and Jason Desisto each chipped in 2 points.  For Ellsworth Curtis had 3 points, Harris 2 points and Grindle 2 points, going 2-2 from the free throw line. Hunter Curtis was 1-2 from the free throw line.

Orono was led by Connor Robertson with a game high 31 points and 7 3's. Sam Martin had 12 points. Orono had a total of 10 3's and were 6-11 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth was led by Jackson Curtis with 21 points and Darby Barry had 12 points. Ellsworth had a total of 9 3's and were 10-13 from the free throw line.

Ellsworth 0-1 will play at Old Town on Tuesday, December 11th at 7PM

Orono, 1-0 will play host to John Bapst on Tuesday, December 11th at 7PM.
