Ellsworth 2nd, MDI 7th in Cheering Competition

The Hermon Hawks captured the Big East cheering title by compiling 127.1 points in an eight-team competition Saturday night at their high school gym.

Ellsworth placed second in the meet with 117.6 points while John Bapst of Bangor finished third with 103.3 points.

Rounding out the field were Caribou 97.9, Presque Isle 95.5, Old Town 90.7, Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor 85.6 and Washington Academy of East Machias 79.8

Teams are preparing for the upcoming Eastern Maine regionals on Jan. 26 and state championships on Feb. 9, both set at the Bangor Auditorium.
