A group of former football players spearheaded by Andrew Leiser have established a gofundme account for the Coach Shields Victory Bell. This bell would be for all student-athletes to use, not just football players per Coach Shields' request.

According to the Gofundme account " For twenty-two years, Coach Shields has shaped a generation of MDI football players. Under his leadership, Coach Shields developed a tradition of a prideful football program, including playoff berths for the last eleven consecutive seasons and the program's first-ever Regional Championship.

Coach is too humble to accept the impact that he has had on so many students that he has coached and taught.  He will be the first to point to the work of dedicated assistants, families who got players to early two-a-day practices--and most of all--the student-athletes as the reason for the success of the MDI Football Program.  While football is a team sport and building a winning program takes a community, Coach's impact on our program and the greater MDI community is undeniable.

In honor of the years of dedicated service and personal sacrifice of Coach Shields, former players, families of players, MDI students, alumni, and friends of the program are invited to contribute to the newest MDI tradition, the "Coach Shields Victory Bell."

Per Coach's request, the bell is for all student-athletes to use and enjoy. Our goal is to raise enough money to not only purchase a bell that our community will be proud to ring, but also to make a gift to the MDI All-Sports Boosters to benefit the student-athletes at MDIHS.

Please consider making a gift not only to honor the dedicated work of Coach but also to support and build an even better MDI student experience for the future!

GO TROJANS!"
