City of Ellsworth Officially Appoints Troy Bires Police Chief and Shawn Willey Deputy Chief
At the Monday August 19th City Council meeting, the Ellsworth City Council officially confirmed Troy Bires as Police Chief. Additionally Shawn Willey was promoted from Captain to Deputy Chief
Chief Bires and Deputy Chief Willey were officially sworn in on Tuesday, August 20th.
Ellsworth City Manager Charlie Pearce appointed Acting Chief Troy Bires to become Ellsworth's new Police Chief on Monday, July 29th.
Chief Bires has worked in law enforcement for over 35 years and for the City of Ellsworth since 1990. He was appointed Interim Chief on March 11th, 2024 after the City Council fired former Chief Glenn Moshier.
Bires started in Ellsworth as a Captain and was appointed Deputy Chief on April 22, 2021. He worked as an undercover officer with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and was an Assistant Supervisor in that agency.
According to the City of Ellsworth's website Deputy Chief Willey has been working for the Ellsworth Police Department since 2003. Willey worked patrol where he became the departments K-9 officer in 2005. In 2011 Willey was promoted to Sergeant and still serves as the departments K-9 officer with, K-9 CHASE. He supervises one of the two evening crews and is a member of the Underage Drinking Enforcement Team. Deputy Chief Willey also supervises the three dispatchers at the Ellsworth Police Department.
