Blaney is a graduate of MDI High School where he played football, tennis and was a very successful swimmer for the Trojans, earning several State Individuals Championships. After graduating from MDIHS David attended Bates College and was All NESCAC all four years as a member of the swimming program. After graduating from Bates, Coach Blaney returned to MDI High School and has served as the assistant swimming coach for the last 12 years under former coach Tony Demuro.

Blaney is well respected by the students and should provide a very smooth transition moving forward. He understands the traditions that have been established with the swimming community in the State and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

MDI High School Athletic Director Bunky Dow stated, “Coach Blaney brings a wealth of swimming knowledge and experience to our swimming program.  His passion and enthusiasm for the sport of swimming is contagious. Our student-athletes are fortunate to have him as their head coach.”
