Bass Harbor Lighthouse Ownership Transferred to Acadia National Park
One of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse's ownership was transferred to Acadia National Park from the United States Coast Guard on Wednesday, July 8th.
In a Facebook post on July 8th, Acadia National Park wrote
The National Park Service is excited to announce that the U.S. Coast Guard transferred the Bass Harbor Head Light Station to Acadia National Park today, July 8. The acquisition includes five historic buildings on two acres of land. The National Park Service is developing plans to reuse the lighthouse, and improve visitor access and enjoyment of the site. The U.S. Coast Guard will continue to operate and maintain the automated aid to navigation. The light station was constructed in 1858 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1988
