If you are a Bar Harbor resident, who is 65 years or older, and lived in Bar Harbor for 5 consecutive years, you may be eligible for the Senior Taxpayer Assistance Program which provides property tax relief to low-income senior citizens.

If you do not qualify or did not receive a rebate under the State program, you will not be eligible for the Town of Bar Harbor Senior Taxpayer Assistance Program

Application instructions are below:

  1. Fully complete the program application with information release form, and Landlord and Rent Payment confirmation form (if applicable) included with this packet.
  2. Attach a signed copy of your 2021 Form 1040ME, including Schedule PTFC (Property Tax Fairness Credit).
  3. Return the application to:

Senior Taxpayer Assistance Program ,Manager’s Office 93 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04605.

4. Application deadline is December 1, 2022. You must complete an application annually to participate in the program. Program is subject to Council approval on a yearly basis.   You must receive the State Property Tax Fairness Credit for the previous tax year to be eligible for the Town of Bar Harbor program.
