The Executive Director of the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Alf Anderson, sent out an email to members this morning, October 19th announcing his resignation. He will stay on with the Chamber through the end of 2022.

Anderson had been the Executive Director since August 6th, 2019 and shepherded the Chamber through the COVID pandemic

Here is his letter

Dear members,

I am writing to share the news that I have decided to leave my position as Executive Director of the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce. I will be staying on through the end of the year in order to support the community with our fall events and the production of our 2023 Bar Harbor Visitors Guide.

My wife, Heather, and I will be relocating to southern Maine, so I won't be going far. This was a very difficult decision but we realized over the past few months that we need to be closer to our families.

The past seven and a half years have been challenging yet rewarding. It has been a privilege to represent you all and it has been a thrill to be a part of promoting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park as a world-class destination. And, it has been an honor getting to know all of you.

I will miss working alongside my fellow Chamber staff members Melanie, Chris, Aubrie, Donna, and Peter. I will miss working with the dedicated volunteers on our board of directors. And, of course, I will miss the passionate, caring community of Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island!

As I mentioned, I will be here through December and I hope to get a chance to see as many members of the community as possible between now and then. Please stop by the office to say hello or catch me during the Pajama Sale & Bed Races or Village Holidays Celebration for a chat.

I hope you will continue to show your support for the excellent work being done at the Chamber. It is a strong organization that was here long before me and will remain long after I'm gone.

All the best,
Alf
