June 11th Update - Unfortunately  the 2020 Bar Harbor 4th of July Fireworks have been cancelled.

Contrary to a Monday April 27th news report, the Bar Harbor 4th of July fireworks have not been canceled.

As WDEA first reported on Friday, April 24, the Acadia Chamber made the decision to cancel the Southwest Harbor fireworks and Oktoberfest because of concerns over the COVID-19 virus.

However, on Monday, a story at NewsCenter Maine about the cancellation of those events initially indicated the Bar Harbor fireworks also had been canceled. The story was quickly corrected to say the cancellation only applies to the Southwest Harbor fireworks.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is the sponsor of the Bar Harbor 4th of July Celebration, including the Parade and Fireworks. In a conversation with Alf Anderson, the president of the Bar Harbor Chamber on Monday afternoon April 27, he assured me that these two events had not been cancelled.
