Bangor Heroin Bust Nets Arrest Of New Yorker
A New York man was arrested in Bangor this week for allegedly trafficking heroin in Penobscot and Hancock Counties.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said in a media release that 28-year-old Jeremy Cruz from the Bronx, New York was arrested Wednesday on Main Street in Bangor. His arrest followed an investigation into the sale of heroin in Hancock and Penobscot Counties. He's charged with Class A Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (heroin). The charge was elevated to aggravated because one of the sales occurred within 1,000 feet of a drug-free safe zone.
The investigation included the undercover purchase of heroin from Cruz. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where bail was set at $30,000 cash. It's expected that he will make his first court appearance today.
MDEA officials say this arrest was part of a continued effort focused on the growing presence of out of state drug traffickers selling heroin in Hancock County and other areas. The Bangor Police Department and Hancock County Sheriff's Office assisted in this investigation, which is ongoing. More arrests are expected.
