Acadia National Park Thompson Island Picnic Area Remains Temporarily Closed
If you travel to and from Mount Desert Island you probably have noted that the gate remains shut and locked to Acadia National Park's Thompson Island Picnic Area. As of Tuesday, June 16th the picnic area remains temporarily closed.
Christie Anastasia, the Public Affairs Specialist told me that the picnic area will remain closed for awhile, while Acadia National Park can staff up enough to clean restrooms and empty trash there. No date associated with that yet.
On a positive note, the Information Center at the Thompson Island rest center heading onto the Island is open, staffed by the Acadia Chamber, although the rest rooms remain closed.
