Sox Roll With 4-1 Win Over Rays [VIDEO]
The Boston Red Sox continued to roll as they took the second game of their series with the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 4-1.
Rick Porcello picked up his 11th win of the season in the contest, allowing just a first inning run before shutting down the Rays in the next six frames. Porcello logged seven strong innings of six hit ball, while striking out five.
The Sox offense remained strong as Xander Bogaerts paced the Sox with a two run homer and a 1-3 performance. Dustin Pedroia also had a 1-3 day with two runs batted in for his efforts.
With the victory the Sox move to 48-36 on the season and remain two games back of the Baltimore Orioles who also won on Saturday. They are now tied for 2nd with Toronto.
Boston did announce the news that closer Craig Kimbrel will be out for the next three to six weeks after suffering an injury in the pregame activities on Friday. Kimbrel will undergo surgery before the All-Star break and Koji Uehara has been announced as the team’s closer until he returns. Newly acquired reliever Brad Ziegler will be activated on Sunday, July 10th with right handed pitcher Sean O'Sullivan going on the 15 day disabled list with left knee tendinitis.
