Rodriguez Struggles, Sox Lose 5-1 [VIDEO]
The Boston Red Sox fell back into second place in the American League East after falling the rubber match-up of the three game set with the Baltimore Orioles.
Eduardo Rodriguez continued his struggles from the mound and lasted just 4.1 innings pitched, allowing eight hits, two walks, and five earned runs. The loss was Rodriguez's second of the season and his earned run average moved up to 6.97 for the season.
Baltimore jumped out in the third inning with a two-run home run by Adam Jones and the outfielder would later drive in another run in the next inning to give the Os a 3-0 advantage. Chris Davis and Jonathan Schoop would add an RBI each in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach for the Sox. David Ortiz would launched his 17th home run of the season in the ninth inning off of Brad Brach, before Hanley Ramirez popped up to end the game.
The Red Sox record now drops to 37-28 for the season, a game behind the Os for first place. The Toronto Blue Jays also won 13-2 against the Philadelphia Phillies and now trail Boston by just one game.
Boston will host the Seattle Mariners on Friday night for the first of a three game set with Roenis Elias getting the start versus Hisashi Iwakuma.
