This Monday, May 27th is Memorial Day. There are a two events going on in Ellsworth, Maine, that you should be aware of.

The first one is the YMCA Main Street Memorial Mile which starts at the Ellsworth Shopping Center on High Street at 9:00 AM and finishes at R.F. Jordan and Sons on Water Street. One southbound lane on High Street will be blocked off for the runners. Main Street between High Street and Water/State St will also shut down for a short period. Traffic will be allowed off Union River Bridge onto Water Street but will be delayed. The race benefits the YMCA and the Beth C. Wright Cancer Center.

The VFW Post 109 Memorial Day parade starts at 10:00 from the Moore Community Center on State Street. The parade goes south on School Street to Main Street, down Main St to State St, up State St to City Hall. During the parade State Street between Oak and Main is closed to traffic. Main St between High and State/Water St is closed to traffic. Traffic is allowed across Union River Bridge to Water St during most of the parade. There is a short ceremony on the bridge during which time no traffic is allowed across the bridge.

If you are on the west side of town and wish to get to the High Street area, an alternate route would be to take Christian Ridge Road to Route 1A.

Additionally there will be no trash pick-up in the City on Memorial Day. Trash will be picked up throughout the entire City on Tuesday, May 28th.
