Monday, May 30th is Memorial Day, a day to remember those who have died in our nation's service. There are events happening in Bar Harbor and Ellsworth. Here's what's happening....

Bar Harbor
Members of the community will gather at the Town Pier at 10 AM. There guest speakers will share their thoughts and memories and the Gospel Gents and the Conners-Emerson School Band will play. Members of the Coast Guard will lay a wreath overboard in the Atlantic Ocean just off the pier in honor of all who have died in service to the United States.

Major Amy Cartmell of the United States Army will present several medals to Sean Hall in honor of his father, Captain Walter Hall, who is missing in action from the Vietnam War. Mr. Hall will be presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, the Air Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, among others.

Complimentary coffee and donuts will be served following the ceremony.

Blue Star Memorial 1 PM at the Head of the Island
Members of the Bar Harbor Garden Club will place a wreath and conduct readings at the Blue Star Memorial. The public is invited to attend.

Free Admission to the Abbe Museum
Thanks to the generosity of Machias Savings Bank, admission to the Abbe Museum will be free to all visitors on Memorial Day,2016. Stop by and see the Abbe's new core exhibit, People of the First Light, which is the first large-scale permanent exhibit of its kind for the Museum.

Ellsworth
The VFW Post 109 Memorial Day parade starts at 10:00 from the old Moore Community Center on State Street (across from Knowlton Park). The parade goes south on School Street to Main Street, down Main Street to State Street, up State Street to City Hall. During the parade State Street between Oak and Main is closed to traffic. Main St between High and State/Water St is closed to traffic. Traffic is allowed across Union River Bridge to Water St during most of the parade. There is a short ceremony on the bridge during which time no traffic is allowed across the bridge.

Everyone is invited to participate. Line up time is at 9:30
