MDI Hospital’s Community Celebration

MDI Hospital celebrated the 2023 Fiscal Year with a reception open to the public at the Bar Harbor Club on Wednesday, September 13th.

President Chrissi Maguire offered remarks and awards were presented

• Volunteer of the Year - Thomas J. Murdy and Nikki Burtis
• Healthcare Partner of the Year - MDI Opiate Task Force
• Community Partner of the Year - Bar Harbor (MDI) Rotary Club
• Business Partner of the Year - Kim Swan

The MDI Opiate Task Force led by Bar Harbor Fire Department's Deputy Chief John Lennon has held several free public Narcan training sessions and more are planned for the fall. The Bar Harbor Fire Department, since becoming a registered tier 2 naloxone distributer in October of 2022 has distributed over 300 doses free to the community.

Some of the patient care statistics that MDI Hospital shared for the 2023 Fiscal Year include

• They have 524 employees, 110 of whom are nurses.
• They performed 122,242 lab tests and took 16,013 images in the radiology department (radiology, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and MRI)
• They performed 4,293 mammograms
• They had 62,581 outpatient health center visits and 6,562 visits to the Emergency Room
• There were 66 births, and 1508 total surgeries.
• 116 volunteers volunteered a total of 2,209.75 hours!
• There were 743 acute care admission, totaling 3,270 acute care patient days, with the average stay being 4.41 days
