The MDI Girl's Softball Team played host to Old Town, on Saturday May 24th and lost in extra innings, 6-5.

MDI scored first, in the bottom of the 1st inning. Shelby O'Neil singled to start the home half of the inning, and advanced to 2nd base on Sierra Myrick's sacrifice bunt to third. O'Neil then scored when Hannah Shaw singled. The score after the 1st inning was MDI 1 - Old Town 0.

MDI scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Hannah Shaw reached 2nd base on an error by the Old Town centerfielder. She advanced to 3rd base on Avalon Kerley's single. Kerley stole 2nd base, and both Shaw and Kerley scored on Molly Carroll's single. After three innings, MDI led 3-0.

In the 4th inning, Old Town scored twice. Rachel Martin singled, and went to second base on Leighton's single. MDI then turned a double play, but with two out Kayla Hayward singled, scoring Rachel Martin. Mikayla Richards singled, moving Hayward to second. Hayward and Richards advanced on a passed ball, and then Hayward scored when Lauren Martin reached on an error by the MDI shortstop. The score was MDI 3 Old Town 2.

In the top of the 5th inning, Old Town pushed three more runs across, all of them unearned. Brittany Cousins, Karah Hussey and Rachel Martin all scored. MDI had an error on the 3rd baseman, a passed ball and wild pitch in the inning.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, MDI was able to get one of the runs back. Hannah Shaw singled and stole 2nd base. She went to 3rd base on a single by Avalon Kerley. Kerley went to 2nd base, and Shaw to 3rd, when Molly Carroll walked. Ali Bierman singled, driving in Shaw, but OId Town shut down the Trojans the rest of the inning. At the end of 5 innings, the Coyotes led MDI 5-4.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, MDI tied the score, as they plated one run. Darcy Kanu singled to start the inning, and eventually scored when Hannah Shaw grounded to short. At the end of 6 innings, the score was tied 5-5.

In the top of the 8th inning, Old Town scored a run. Kayla Hayward singled and eventually scored on an error by the MDI shortstop. MDI went quietly in the bottom of the 8th, as Old Town's pitcher, Rachel Martin struck out 2, and got a ground out to short to end the game.

MDI's Haley Littlefield picked up the tough loss, going 8 innings, giving up 6 runs, only 1 which was earned. She gave up 10 hits, walked 1 and struck out 1.

Old Town's Rachel Martin picked up the win. She allowed 5 runs, 4 of which were earned. She gave up 11 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4.

MDI is now 7-5 on the season. They play John Bapst Tuesday, May 27th in Bangor, at 4:30 and then host Caribou in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 31st at 12 noon and 2 PM.

Old Town is a perfect 10-0 on the season. They host Orono on Thursday, May 29th at 4 PM and play a doubleheader against John Bapst on Saturday, May 31st at 11 AM and 1 PM. They still have a doubleheader to play up in Presque Isle.
