I am saddened to report that Don Featherstone, the inventor of the plastic flamingo has passed away at the age of 79 in Fitchburg Massachusetts.

I met Don and his wife Nancy while broadcasting from the Flamingo Festival in Southwest Harbor. He was quite a character, and he and Nancy, always wore matching outfits. Nancy hand made their outfits, for more than 37 years, and I remember asking him one time, what happens if you spill something on your shirt. He told me they would both go home and change their shirts!  It was always fun talking with them in Southwest Harbor, and he will be sorely missed. This year's Flamingo Festival July 17th-19th just won't be the same.
