Ellsworth Doubles Up MDI 4-2

The Ellsworth Eagles Baseball team picked up their first win of the season Saturday, May 3rd in Bar Harbor against their rivals, the Mount Desert Island Trojans , 4-2 in a makeup game that was postponed from May 1st.

MDI took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jon Phelps doubled to lead off for the Trojans, and advanced to third base when Riley Swanson grounded to second, and then scored on a passed ball.

Ellsworth tied the score in the top of the 3rd inning. Steven Mahon walked inning and then advanced on an error, and then scored on a wild pitch.

In the 4th inning, Ellsworth took the lead 2-1. Sid St. Peter singled, and advanced on a base hit by Nick Bagley. St. Peter scored on a single by Mitchell Domagala.

MDI tied the score in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jack Sanger singled, and then stole second. He advanced to third on a ground out by Andrew Davis, and scored on a error.

Ellsworth would take the lead for good in the top of the 6th inning. when Mitchell Domagala reached on an error with two out. He would subsequently score on another error.

Ellsworth pushed across an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning. Conor Maguire singled with one out, stole second, and then scored on a single by Sid St. Peter.

Conor Maguire was 2-4 batting for Ellsworth  and Sid St. Peter was 2-4 with a RBI. Mitchell Domagala was 1-3 with a RBI.

For MDI , Phelps and  Tom Paola were both 1-3 batting.

Conor Maguire picked up the win for Ellsworth, pitching a complete game, allowing 2 unearned runs, 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4. Steven Hanscom suffered the loss, allowing 4 runs, 2 of which were earned, walking 2 giving up 6 hits and striking out 6.

Ellsworth is now 1-2 on the season.  Ellsworth plays Monday, May 5th at home against Washington Academy at 4:30, at home Wednesday May 7th against Old Town at 4:30 and then on the road in Dover-Foxcroft on Friday, May 9th at 4:30 against Foxcroft Academy.

MDI is now 2-2. They play at Old Town on Monday, May 5th at 4:30, at home against John Bapst on Wednesday, May 7th at 4:30 and then a doubleheader in Presque Isle on Saturday, May 10th at 12 Noon and 2 PM.
