Ellsworth Boys to the Semis 56-28
The Ellsworth Boy's Basketball Team served notice that they could be the team to beat in the Class B North 2016 Tournament with a dominating 56-28 victory over the MCI Huskies on Saturday morning at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
It was 10-10 at the end of the 1st Quarter, as Treston Grier hit a 3-pointer from half court to tie the game at the buzzer. Grier had 2 3-pointers and 6 points for the Huskies, while Josh Buker had 4 points. For Ellsworth, Bryce Harmon had 5 points and Kyle Golding had a 3-pointer and Cooper Henderson had 2 points.
The Eagles outscored MCI 22-2 in the 2nd Quarter. Bruce St. Peter had 9 points, Nick Bagley had 7 points, Golding and Alex Braley drained 3-pointers for the Eagles. Grier had MCI's lone 2 points. At the half, it was Ellsworth 32 MCI 12.
In the 3rd Quarter, MCI cut into the lead, but only a bit, as the Eagles led 41-24 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Zach Harris had a 3-pointer for the Eagles, while Golding, Bagley and St. Peter each had 2 points. For MCI Grier had 5 points, with a 3-pointer, Juan Bango Roig Garcia had 4 points and Buker had a 3-pointer.
In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth's defense limited MCI to 4 points while the Eagle offense poured in 15. For the Eagles, Braley had 5 points with a 3-pointer, St. Ptder had 4 points, Dylan Taplin had 2 points, Bagley had 2 points and Harmon had 1 point.
Ellsworth was led by St. Peter with 15 points, while Nick Bagley had 11 points and Alex Braley and Kyle Golding each had 8 points. The Eagles were 11-19 from the free throw line.
MCI was led by Treston Grier with 13 points while Josh Buker had 7 points and Juan Bango Roig Garcia had 6 points. The Huskies were 4-8 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth the #2 seed 15-4 now advances to play Caribou, the #6 seed 12-8, on Wednesday night, February 17th at 7:05 PM in a game that will be broadcast on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio.
