EHS Football Stadium Dedicated to Harold “Tug” White
On Friday, October 21st, friends, family and the Ellsworth football community joined together prior to the Ellsworth-MCI football game for the dedication of the Ellsworth High School Football Stadium to Harold "Tug" White. Speaking at the ceremony were Dan Higgins, the Superintendent of Ellsworth Schools, Robert Crosthwaite, Mayor of Ellsworth, and Duane Crawford, Ellsworth Football Coach.
Dan Higgins was kind enough to provide us with his prepared notes that he used for his speech last night.
This evening we will recognize a man with a long and distinguished history in the City of Ellsworth, employment in Ellsworth Schools, involvement in and passion for athletics and student athletes, and played an instrumental in the return of football to the city of Ellsworth and Ellsworth High School.

3 Sport Standout athlete at EHS
Football – LTC All Star
Basketball – Member of 1953 State Champion team that competed in the NE tournament
Baseball – Member of what is now known as the Eastern Maine Championship team
Served as Assistant Director and Director of Special Education for the Educational Cooperative for 25 plus years
Served on Ellsworth School Committee and RSU 24 Board of Directors
Served on the Ellsworth School District Board of Trustees – responsible for construction of Del Luce Stadium
Long-time youth baseball coach in Ellsworth
Coached football at Bar Harbor High School
Broadcaster (WDEA Radio – basketball and football) and (TV Channel 7 – HS basketball tournaments and bowling)
Wrote a sports column at the Ellsworth American
Played instrumental role in return of football to the City of Ellsworth and EHS
Dedication and Presentation
On behalf of the Ellsworth School Board, Ellsworth City Council, and City of Ellsworth, and in recognition of his many contributions to the youth, sports and community, support of students and student-athletes throughout the years, efforts to help revitalize and restore football in Ellsworth, how he positively touched and influenced the lives of all those who were fortunate to know and be associated with him, and a career and a more importantly a human being worthy of this honor.
It is my distinct privilege and pleasure to dedicate this facility to Harold "Tug" White with the new name Harold "Tug" White Stadium and present this plaque to the family commemorating the occasion.
