Candace Kerley Named MDI Hospital Employee of the Year

MDI Hospital held their annual meeting on Monday, August 1st and President and CEO Arthur Blank announced that Candace Kerley was the Employee of the Year! Kerley, who is a Clinical Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist was selected by her fellow employees as Employee of the Year for dedication and commitment to the organization.

At the meeting, Blank told attendees that MDI Hospital received 4 national awards for patient satisfaction and quality of care, as well as a State Award from Maine Emergency Medical Services naming MDI Hospital the Trauma System Hospital of the Year in honor of the organization's outstanding commitment to the Maine Emergency Medical Services system.

For several years now, with the help of our committed donors and friends, we have worked with colleagues from Penn Medicine to bring state-of-the-art technologies and procedures to our Emergency Department" said Blank. "We have collaborated with our colleagues at Maine EMS, Lifeflight and Penn Medicine to ensure that our community receives the highest standard of responsive, integrated emergency care."

MDI Hospital has extended evening hours at 4 health centers. MDI Hospital also welcomed Dr. Aatif Ansari to the Community Dental Center and expanded their free dental service days to reach both underserved adults and children on Mount Desert Island.

The Hospital provided over 4.7 million dollars in free or uncompensated care to the community in the past year and developed it's educational partnerships with the College of the Atlantic and MDI High School.
