Wyman's of Maine in Milbridge is the latest blueberry processing facility to have workers who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. Nirav Shah, of the Maine CDC, says 4 workers at Wyman's have tested positive, as part of the company's universal testing of 'arriving workers.' Wyman's deals in the processing of multiple fruits, including blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, among others.

Other blueberry farms with outbreaks include Hancock Foods, which had a total of 10 cases and Merrill Farms, which had 9 cases, as of Tuesday. The outbreaks are among migrant workers, who are being tested by their employers once they arrive in Maine. Questions have been raised about why these workers are not being forced to have tests in their home states before coming to Maine, or to quarantine for 14 days after arriving here, as is being required of out-of-state visitors.

The Maine CDC reports the workers are being quarantined in Bangor, where they are being kept 'safe and secure.' Dr. Shah declined to say exactly where they're recovering, out of respect for their privacy.

On Tuesday, August 4th, the Maine CDC reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, and 28 more people who have recovered. They also reported one fewer death in the state, after an examination revealed that a death was not, in fact, attributable to the virus.
