A recent toxicology study found alarming amounts of the weed killing poison found in round up in a number of oat based breakfast cereals.

This was done by an independent lab hire by EWG to look for the residual poison  making it into the actual consumer products. The chemical name of the herbicide is Glyphosate, and this agent has been linked to cancer by California state scientists and the World Health Organization. Sadly it was found in all but two of 45 samples of products made with conventionally grown oats. And their site finds:

"Almost three-fourths of those samples had glyphosate levels higher than what EWG scientists consider protective of children’s health with an adequate margin of safety. About one-third of 16 samples made with organically grown oats also had glyphosate, all at levels well below EWG’s health benchmark."

Some of the worst offender were Cheerios and Quaker brands. The EWG sites are looking to inform the public by posting the complete study to help consumers make informed decisions and reach out to the companies on the list to encourage them to adopt better practices.
