October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Today is also Saturday, October 2nd. For years WLBZ Channel 2 used to run Buddy2Buddy public service  announcements on the 2nd of the month to remind everyone to perform a Breast Self-Exam. I'm not sure if they still do that, but it's a great time to remind you! Remember early detection is the best way to survive breast cancer!

The Beth C. Wright Cancer Survivor Scholarship was started in May 2021 as a way to support students who had suffered the effects of cancer diagnosis in their immediate families. In it's first month, over $3500 was raised and the Scholarship Committee was able to award scholarships to 4 members of the Ellsworth High School Class of 2021.

It is hoped that eventually they can extend this scholarship to all high school seniors who have been faced with cancer inn their immediate families throughout Hancock and Washington Counties.

During the month of October, businesses are encouraged to have their employees Wear Pink on Fridays in exchange for a donation to the Beth C. Wright Cancer Survivor Scholarship Program.  Individuals can also participate!
