Trojans Roll Over Gray-New Gloucester 44-16 [STATS & PHOTOS]
The MDI Trojans beat the Gray-New Gloucester Patriots 44-16 at Alumni Field in Bar Harbor to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Trojans won the coin-flip and deferred, electing to take the ball to start the 2nd Half. The Trojans kicked off and Gray-New Gloucester took over on their own 30 yard line. The Trojan's defense forced a punt, and MDI had good field position, taking over on the Patriot's 40 yard line with 7:29 left in the 1st Quarter.
The Patriot's defense forced MDI to turn the ball over on downs, and with 4:24 left, the Patriots took over on their own 11 yard line. It only took 1:37 and Gray-New Gloucester was in the end zone thanks to an 87 yard pass from Kobi Conant to Nick Geer. The 2-point conversion was good, and with 2:47 left in the 1st Quarter Gray-New Gloucester led 8-0.
The Trojans answered. A big holding penalty negated an excellent return, so MDI started at their own 25 yard line. The Trojans scored after a 67 run by Spencer Laurendau and then a 10 yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was good, with the drive taking just 20 seconds. With 2:18 left in the 1st Quarter the score was tied at 8-8.
Gray-New Gloucester took over on their 25 yard line but turned the ball over on downs.
MDI took over at their own 8 yard line with 8:13 left in the 2nd Quarter. They were in the end zone 3:01 later, as Jacob Shield ran in from 15 yards out. The 2-point conversion was no good, and MDI led 14-8 with 5:12 left in the 1st Half.
After Gray-New Gloucester was forced to punt MDI took over at the Gray-New Gloucester 49 yard line. 1:12 later Laurendeau ran in from 10 yards out. Again, MDI's 2-point conversion failed, and with 1:47 left in the 1st Half, MDI led 20-8.
The Trojans led at the end of the 1st Half 20-8.
After MDI took possession in the 3rd Quarter, Laurendau was intercepted by Kobi Conant.
But the Trojans then forced a fumble and took over at the Gray-New Gloucester 18 yard line.
MDI was forced to punt, with the Patriots taking over on their 20 with 5:20 left.
Conant was then picked-off with Spencer Laurendeau returning the interception 80 yards for a pick-6. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI led 28-8 with 3:05 left in the 3rd Quarter.
Gray-New Gloucester took over at their own 18 yard line, and again Laurendeau picked off Conant.
The Trojans scored on a 7-yard run by Jacob Shield, The 2-point conversion was good, and with 11:53 left in the 4th Quarter, MDI was up 36-8.
The Trojans scored again, as freshman Lincoln Gray scored his 1st Varsity touchdown, this coming with 9:57 left in the game, on a 8-yard run. The 2-point conversion was good, and MDI was up 44-8.
Gray-New Gloucester would score their final points of the game with 36.6 seconds left, on a 17 yard pass from Prescott to Cody Tracy. The 2-pont conversion was good and the final score was 44-16.
Gray-New Gloucester's Nick Geer was lost for the game in the 1st Half with an upper body injury.
MDI improves to 2-0 and will play at Camden Hills on Saturday, September 16th at 2 p.m. That game will be broadcast on WDEA Internet Radio, on our free downloadable APP and on any Alexa enabled device.
Gray-New Gloucester is 0-2. They will play host to Mt. Ararat on Friday, September 15th at 6 p.m.
