Sumner Memorial High School will have a new administrative team to lead them in the 2021-22 year, as it was announced that Principal Ty Thurlow and Assistant Principal Jayme Jones had both resigned.

Principal Thurlow provided the following letter he had sent to the Sumner Memorial High School Community.

Dear Sumner Community,

I have been searching, for some time now, for the right time for my departure from Sumner Memorial High School.  To this end, I will be leaving my post as principal at the conclusion of this current school year for a position that will provide new and exciting opportunities for me, my family, and the trajectory of my career (I will speak of this position when it is appropriate to do so).  Although I appreciate this is not exactly ideal timing for our school and our district, I believe that my departure at this time positions and prepares our school quite well to find another leader that can carry the mantle forward into the new building and beyond.

I am grateful for the time we have spent together and will take with me many important lessons learned, and many fond memories.  However, now is not the time for pondering the past, instead, it is a time for excitement and anticipation for Prom, the Graduation Season and graduation events, the culmination of learning for the school year, and (of course) our Summer Vacation!

I look forward to working with you in the final push of the school year.  We are almost there! We've got this! We are, and will continue to be, #SumnerStrong!

With gratitude and best wishes,

Ty Thurlow

Principal
