Swan’s Island School Participating in WinterKids 2020

The Swan's Island School has been chosen to participate in WinterKids 2020 for the 2nd year in a row, 1 of 2 schools in Hancock County, and 1 of only 32 schools throughout Maine.

The goal of WinterKids 2020 is a 4 week challenge, which began on January 6th and lasting through January 31st that emphasizes outdoor physical activity, nutrition, family engagement and winter carnivals. Students and teachers participating in educational games and activities will earn points towards a $5000 gold medal cash prize (and more!). The challenge focuses on science, math, art, and technology (STEAM) programming while incorporating outdoor physical activity.

Weeks are structured as

• January 6th - Physical Activity Week and Science
• January 13th - Nutrition Week and Math
• January 20th - Family Engagement Week and Art
• January 27th - Winter Carnival Week and Engineering or Technology
• February 5th - Winners Announced.

We participated last year and were pleased with the response from teachers, parents, and students! This program allowed us to expand our programming, incorporate more physical activity into our classroom lessons, and have some fun outdoors with our students! I am thankful for all of the businesses and organizations that sponsor this event!
