Sox Win 9-6 Back in 1st Place
The Boston Red Sox jumped out to a 6-0 lead and then lost it as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tied the game 6-6 in the top of the 7th inning. But, the Red Sox scored 2 in the bottom of the 7th and added an insurance run in the 8th to beat the Angels 9-6. Coupled with the New York Yankees 3-0 loss to the Phillies, and the Red Sox are back in 1st place, leading the Bronx Bombers by a 1/2 game.
The Red Sox hit 3 homers in the game, all coming in the 2nd inning when the Sox put up 6 runs. Eduardo Nunez hit a solo shot, Sandy Leon hit a 2 run homer and JD Martinez hit a 3 run homer. It was Martinez's 25th homer of the year. He's now the 1st Red Sox player in history that has hit 25 homers before June 30th. Martinez now leads the majors with 25 Home Runs and 64 RBIs.
Rick Porcello was cruising before allowing a 3 run homer in the 6th inning and ended up with a no-decision. He threw 5.2 innings giving up 8 hits, 4 runs and struck out 5 while walking 2. Matt Barnes picked up the win, he's now 2-2. Craig Kimbrel earned his 23rd save, getting 4 outs, 2 by strikeout.
Every Red Sox batter had a hit, with the exception on Mitch Moreland. Rafael Devers, hitless Tuesday was 3-4 with a double.
